Dr. Eugene Bergman, a resident of Montgomery County (MD), was a 1953 Gallaudet graduate. In 2009, he wrote a book "Deaf Survivor: A Memoir of the Holocaust" published in 2009 by McFarland and Co. A deaf Polish Jew, Eugene told stories about his experience with the Nazi invasion of Poland, the Warsaw Ghetto and his family’s escape from its destruction for America. During his Gallaudet years, he was known as "Quiet, likeable Gene... who knows more about six foreign languages... translates manuscripts in his spare time... a philosopher who turns out good literary material when he mood hits him..."
